Finding Your Affiliate Marketing Business Niche
To be successful in any business online or offline, you need to find a place for you in the marketplace. You need to find a market where there is demand and not too much competition, supply.
All though you might think there are so many online businesses that there really is not many niches left in this world that are nit saturated with competition but you will be surprised once you get into it that there is still plenty of space in the pool.
Here’s what we do to find our niche.
There is a great tool available that you can purchase membership to that will allow you to do all the research that you will ever need as well as instructional videos on how everything is done. Go here if you want to have access to this great tool: http://bit.ly/ayOK00. You can also just keep reading as I explain to you how it can be done with free tools.
The first thing we need to do, since this is an affiliate business, is to find out what affiliate products are available out there that we can sell.
Affiliate Products
For this we will use ClickBank mainly and then also a few other websites I’ll talk about later.
Click here to go to ClickBank: http://bit.ly/deGkQz
Find the Marketplace link, at the time of this writing it was at the very top of the page. Browse through the categories and find a topic you are interested in.
Here is the key to finding a good niche product. The products are displayed in the popularity order so you want to go to about the third page if there are more than six pages available, or if there are less then six don’t worry about it.
Every product listed will have statistics info below it, what you are looking for is $/sale to be between $10 and $29, %/sale over 50%, %/refd over 70% and Grav under 90.
Click on the items that qualify and check out the sales page and read it through to make sure you agree with everything that it says and make sure you are OK with putting your name on it.
If you are able to find at least 5 product that fit into the above category, write down this category or topic on your topics short list.
Repeat this process with other categories until you have a list of 5 categories or topics.
Checking the Market
Now it’s time to check to see if there is market for the products and topics we’ve chose.
I use the Google Keyword Tool and the Google search engine for this.
Open up both of these pages.
Google Keyword Tool: http://bit.ly/bPGFtb
Google: http://google.com
In the keyword tool type in your first topic keyword, check Use synonyms and click Get Keyword Ideas button.
This will get you a list of keywords that are related to your topic and will also show you some statistics on each.
For each keyword in the list look at the Local Search Volume, ignoring the keywords that have “Not enough data”. This number will be your DEMAND.
Now in Google search engine type in the exact keyword form the generated list in the Keyword Tool, with double quotes around it.
So if this is the list we got from the Keyword Tool:
basket weaving supplies
basket weaving
basket weaving reed
etc…
Than you would process each keyword in the search engine by typing in:
“basket weaving supplies”
Using the double-quotes gives you the exact match on the keyword.
So what you are looking for is the number of results Google returns. This information will be at the top of the results, it will say something like ‘Results 1-10 of about 5,950 for “basket weaving supplies”’.
The 5,950 number is your SUPPLY.
Now that you have your SUPPLY and DEMAND for each keyword you can determine if this keyword is your “niche keyword”.
As you process each keyword refer to the chart below to rank each keyword and write them down so you have the list and rank noted.
As you can see in the chart the best keywords will have over 10,000 searches per month (DEMAND) and less than 10,000 results (SUPPLY). If your keyword falls in the crossed out circle category, toss it.
To have a strong niche you need at least 3 to 5 3-star keywords and 15 to 20 2- and 1-star keywords.
Once you have a nice list of good keywords you can say you have your niche figured out.
